Decent hotels near Termini

I'm in Rome Sept. 23-25 and again on Oct. 17-20, travelling solo. I'm seeing most three-star hotels at around $225-250 a night -- they would have been price at about $125 a few years ago. Five years ago, I'd like to be at under $200 but that might be dreaming. I think I'll give Hotel Millrose a try -- looks decent, situated close to -- but not too close to -- Termini, and priced at around $230 a night.

Hotel Sonya and Hotel Aberdeen are both near station and very nice

200€ to 350€ per night for a 3 star is the prevalent price nowadays in the city center of major cities like Rome or Florence. I don't think you can go lower anymore. The era of hotels below that benchmark are gone, and there are very few hotels left with fewer than 3 stars.

I see on Booking the Hotel Elide, on via Firenze, which would be a bit less than that and is available for your September dates. It gets good reviews and it's in a safe area next to the Palace of the Joint Chief of Staff of the Defense Ministry, so a heavily surveilled area.

Would you consider a monastery? We stayed at Suore di Santa Elisabetta. I'm seeing availability at least for your October dates for well under 200 euros depending on your size of room. It is a great location.

I recently (mid June) stayed at a nice place only 2 blocks from Termini...Hotel Giorgina V.Principe Amedeo 69. Good price and clean...I needed only a one night stay so couldn't book at The Beehive which I like as well. the Beehive is a hostel but also has private rooms with bath. Anyway, it wasn't available for a one night stay but is also only 2 blocks from the station. Hotel Giorgina also included breakfast at the cute cafe next door...looked like lots of nice restaurants in the area as well. They called a cab to the airport for me in the morning as well. Very accommodating.

Hotel Canada (BW Premier Collection), located at Via Vicenza 58, about a 5 minute walk from Roma Termini. Beautiful historic hotel, have stayed there a few times, very reasonably priced.

I have heard the Aberdeen mentioned here several times by Forum regulars, and they have always seemed happy with it.

I've never stayed in that area, so don’t have any recommendations myself.

I've stayed at Hotel Abeerdeen and was very pleased with the room and service there - https://www.hotelaberdeen.it/en/ . I can't recall whether it's within walking distance, as I used a Taxi as I was hauling luggage. I've also stayed at Hotel Sonya and was also very pleased with the room and service there. As I recall, it was definitely within walking distance.

You could also check the latest edition of the Rick Steves Italy guidebook for current listings.

You might look on Airbnb. We have found several lovely homes on our travels that are very close to key sites for under $200. Plus you get to experience life briefly with local folks.
