Decaf in Italy

It’s been a while since I have been back to Italy but we’re planning a trip next April. In thinking about our days there, I am imagining sitting in a small town piazza and having a cappuccino in the morning. Unfortunately more than one cup of caffeinated coffee is a no-no for me. Is it going to be difficult to find decaf so I can enjoy piazza life?

Ask for a Cafe Hag or many places will undersand "decaffeinato."

I haven't been in two years, but I've seen an awful lot of foil packs of instant Sanka in Europe. Sorry.

Think other beverages entirely (fizzy water, freshly-squeezed orange juice…)

Decaf is widely available. Order caffe decaffeinato.

Decaffeinated Coffee in Italian is known as Caffè HAG from the name of the original decaffeinated coffee company founded in Bremen (Germany) Kaffee Handels Aktien Gesellschaft (Handels Coffee Inc.)

Thank you all for the info. I’m reassured that there could be decaf and if not, ideas of what to order instead. Grazie!

Make sure to try the fresh orange juice - I’m always amazed how good it is at almost every bar.

Also, I’m sensitive to caffeine and find I can have 2 or even 3 of the Italian espressos (single) - they are smaller than the American style, less caffeine.

The fresh orange juice is my go-to - not a coffee fan. You can ask for ‘spremuta d’arancia’.

On top of the "decaffeinato" is available in Italy even the "caffè d'orzo", so the barley coffee.
Is prepared like the standard coffee, so could be an "espresso", an "americano", a "corretto", a "cappuccino", "lungo" or "corto", "macchiato"....
