We have rented villas in near Velletri (one week) and north of Verona (two weeks) in August-September and we are wondering if anyone has any suggestions for interesting daytrips. Thanks.

For the Veneto, I agree with what Ron suggested; and I suggest that you look at two guides we found very useful, Cadogan's Northeast Italy and Frommer's Northern Italy's Best Loved Driving Tours. Additional personal recommendations are Bergamo, Lake Garda, and Mantova. There are boat trips you can take along the Brenta Canal which include stops at Palladian villas. E-mail me if you want more specifics about the Veneto. We spent 10 days there this year and about a week last year. Don't forget to eat lots of seafood. Fabulous!
