Hi..my husband and I (mid 50s) will be staying 2 nights in Positano and 2 nights in Praiano and will have access to a car.
I am looking for ideas for day excursions from these 2 areas. For example, I would like to do Path of Gods for a couple of hours. What location would it be best to do this hike from? What other excursions could we do and would we just leave our car at accomodations we are staying at and venture using the bus system?
I love anything on the water (we will be doing capri from sorrento) and anything that is hiking, just not super strenuous. Which base would be best to do a day trip to Rafello from? Thanks for any ideas!
You can take the ferry to Amalfi at the Positano dock then a bus up the mountain to Ravello. Ferry cost us €8 one way in Sept, little tourist bus €5 return. Or you can catch the SITA bus to Amalfi. You could also ferry to Capri from Positano. Definitely leave the car behind!
Beach restaurant....When in Positano ask at your hotel to book a spot on the boat ( recommended in high season) or just go to the port to take the FREE boat with RED FISH to D'Adolfo family run restaurant on the beach...a 10 minute motor boat ( fits abou 8ppl) up the coast to this cute little spot....great restaurant not a rip off, and just a few beach chairs, bring towels, there is an outdoor shower, and a small changing room.
We spent a Sunday from 11am to 5pm here it was great! Then we had a sundowner in the port...this was in October...the boat shuttles people from about 11 - 1 or so then it does not go back until 3pm I think...so plan accordingly...ask hotel to find out...worse case you stay there in paradise an hour or two longer! :)
Pack flat cheap water shoes, you cannot get in or out of the water anywhere along the coastwithout them due to rocky and slimey sea bottom...and finding water shoes in Italy is difficult...I just leave mine behind each trip. You can also have these double as slippers or spa shoes.
I saved my co workers honeymoon with this tip! He was the pride of his new bride! :)
Enjoy!
I have not hiked in that area, but http://www.positano.com/en/e/il-sentiero-degli-dei seems to include all the key points for the Path of the Gods.
