My best friend and I are driving from her home in Stuttgart, Germany and driving to Tuscany. We have reservations at a B&B in Chianti and are looking for recommendations for day trips. We will be arriving late Monday evening and leaving for home on Friday morning. (1st week in June 2009)
There is a bus that can take you from the Chianti area into Florence. Florence is wonderful day trip, but leave the car and take the bus. Also, do you bike? We did a wonderful day long bike trip that left from Florence. We spent time touring a castle, wine and olive oil tasting, eating lunch at a great trattoria, and, of course, biking through the countryside. Here is a link to the web site:

Other day trips we did were Siena (the bus goes there as well, however, we did drive to Siena). I would also plan to visit some of the small towns in the Chianti area (Radda, etc.) They were wonderful. Have a great trip
