We will be leaving for Italy in just over a week! We will fly into Milan, then head to Verona before continuing on to Tuscany for two weeks. We have an extra day in Verona and would like to plan a day trip somewhere nearby. We were considering Bolzano, but the train connections don't look very frequent. We will not have a car, and having been to Venice and Milan before we're looking for somewhere new. We'd love any suggestions for possible day trips from Verona. Thanks!
There are probably 20 plus trains that go between Verona and Bolzano daily. Trip takes either 1:45 or 2:15. they are regional trains so slower with stops.
the schedules change slightly in mid June, so you may not be able to see them if you are looking for the exact date. Try a date next week that corresponds with your travel day.
Vicenza is not too far if you like Palladian architecture, about an hour on the train.
Going the other direction, you are close to Lake Garda. You could bus from Verona to Bardolino or Torri del Benaco on the eastern side. Or you could train to Peschiera del Garda and take the ferries to anywhere on the lake.
Thank you! I checked train times for Bolzano next week as you suggested and found many more connections! I will also look into the towns around lake Garda.
Trento is a charming small city just 70 minutes by train north of Verona. It's an inexpensive day trip and the scenery is nice as well. But you might prefer taking the bus to the eastern shore of Lake Garda (Bardolino, Lazise or Garda Town), then the boat across the Lake to the western shore (Salo or Gardone Riviera). The buses run hourly from the depot 200 yards from the Verona Porta Nuova train station, and the fare is cheap.
Have done two day trips from Verona. First to Sirminione on Lake Garda by bus, about an hour.

The second to Mantua (Mantova) by train. Both really easy to do and IMO worth visiting.
