Day Trips From Venice

I had thought about going From Venice to Perguia as a day trip, but decided it was too far. I don't want to spend 5 hours on a train (that's a big chuck out of my day). Are Verona or Treviso good day trips? Any other suggestions are welcome.

I have not been to Verona or Treviso, but I have been to Vicenza and Padova (Padua) which are both very close and worthwhile day trips. Vicenza for its architecture, and Padova for sights like the Capella degli Scrovegni, its university and it markets.

We enjoyed both Verona and Padova. Spent a week near Lake Garda and visited both. Perugia would be way too far for a daytrip and I also think Ravenna is too far. Haven't been to Treviso so can't comment.

Verona is great and about an hour (driving) from Venice. Padova and Vicenza also, half hour drive. Ravenna,Ferrara.....good day trips. Little further if driving, not sure what times would be by train.

If you like picturesque or medieval little towns you could do a lot worse than Marostica and Bassano del Grappa. Both are just north of Vicenza and combine t omake a great day trip. Of course, you'll probably need a car to do them. If you only have the train, Any one of Verona, Vicenza or Padova make a great day trip. Bologna is a possiblity too although I prefer 2 days there.

A full day trip could include a 30-minute train ride from Venice to Padova to visit Capella degli Scrovegni (Arena Chapel, you'll need a reservation depending on time of year) and other nearby sights, then to Verona or Ferrara (about another hour away by train), and back to Venice. I would definitely include a stop in Padova since you need to go through it to get to the other cities anyway.
