Has anybody stayed in Soriano Nel Cimino? What are good day trips to go to from there?
I assume you'll have a car.
I've never been to Soriano nel Cimino, but I visited and enjoyed these places last year. They are all less than a one-hour drive, according to Rome2Rio.com.
- Orvieto--very attractive hilltown with sights to see and streets to wander.
- Viterbo--larger city with walled historic district. A city rather than a tourist attraction. Villa Lante gardens on the outskirts.
- Tuscania--very old hilltown that had very few tourists when I was there last May.
- Bolsena--lake town with old quarter perched on the side of a hill.
- Civita de Bagnoregio--see the RS guidebook. Civita's sort of a pain to reach via public transportation, but with a car it's simple enough, though there's no avoiding the walk along the elevated causeway.
There are many other worthwhile destinations in that area; I just listed the ones I've been to recently. If you give yourself a few more minutes, you can drive to Tarquinia for the Etruscan sites.
Yes, we will have a car. We will probably rent one in Chiusi when we go to Montepulciano. After stay there, we will drive down to Soriano. Hopefully there is a place to drop rental off there so we don't have to drive in Rome to drop it off. Although, we will be going right to Rome airport from Soriano, so maybe we can drive right to airport and drop off there. Any suggestions?
