Day Trips From Siracusa/Ortigia by Public Transportation

Scicli's nice. Ragusa's the one that needs the most time.

Don't attempt anything by bus on a Sunday or holiday. Check and re-check schedules. All my buses showed up, but you don't want to get marooned. You may find the schedules have inconvenient gaps from the tourist standpoint. Buses in particular often seem to be scheduled to get school children or workers to and from school/work with the long mid-day break.

Did you say you had 10 days in total (for all of Sicily)? If so, I wouldn't add to this list because Siracusa itself easily takes 2.5 days. Noto is only one hour away and takes a 1/2 day or less to see, but Ragusa and Modica are roughly 2 hours each way (so that's 4 hours out of an already short December day just spent in transit). Even though they're close together and on the same train line, I could not fit Ragusa and Modica into one day using the train because you have to be flexible about the schedules and there just wasn't enough "room" to make it work. On Sundays, public transit is infrequent or non-existent, so keep that in mind in your planning.
