Was wondering if there are any cool day trips out of Rome, that are cheap/interesting/adventurous for a college student. Hoping to take public transportation as I am not renting a car. Will be there in august so I don't know if there are any cool beaches or lakes to visit!
Thanks!
Beach people rave about Sperlonga, about an hour by train from Rome. As with most Italian beaches, you have to rent a chair/space/umbrella. My friend who goes there told me it's about €20.
Orvieto, Tivoli, Ostia Antica are all accessible by train from Rome in less than an hour.
You might enjoy Frascati. Good views over Rome, good porchetta, good wine. It costs less than euro 2 from the Termini train station to get there. It takes about a half hour on the regional train.
Lake Nemi isn't far.
