My husband and I will be spending a few days on Rome before our cruise. We are interested in taking one day trip while we are in rome. Any suggestions?
For a small, quaint hilltown experience, take a one hour train trip to Orvieto. The Duomo(cathedral) has a beautiful facade (from 1330), thanks to architect Lorenzo Maitani. The Cathedral houses the San Brizio Chapel which is famous for the fresco by Luca Signorelli. There's also some great shops by the Duomo that have beautiful Italian ceramics. Have fun on your trip.
In addition to Orvieto I would suggest "Villa D'este"in Tivoli. This is a wonderful day trip. Also "Hardian's Villa". You can reach both by bus.
