Can anyone suggest a good day trip or two from Lucca? (other than to Cinque Terra - got that planned)

Go north up the Garfagnana valley to Barga and area.
Very mountainous, rural, beautiful part of Tuscany.

We will have a car and we do have time set aside for Pisa and the Cinque Terra towns. I've seen some nice comments about Carrara.

If you go up to Carrara, you could make a day of it with a stop at Pietrasanta, home of the sculpture workshops, and maybe one of the beaches on the Versilia coast---Lido di Pietrasanta, or nearby Forte dei Marmi.
