My husband and I will be staying in Florence for 4 nights. We wanted this to be a base so we could hopefully go out for a day or two and see more of the rural countryside of Tuscany. We will not have a car but would love to be able to spend the day out seeing wineries and the countryside and even do a cooking class and wine tasting. A private class or tasting would be best but we are ok with a small group. I see all kinds of tours to purchase online but I was curious if there was a better way. What would be best mode of transportation to get to other parts of Tuscany and these wineries. Can we hire a driver to take us to and from where we want to go? How expensive is that? Is there public transportation we can use? Any suggestions on websites or smaller companies to book tours through that may give a more personal experince than tours on trip advisor?
I never took a tour myself, but many people here recommend this one -

You could take the bus to Greve, about an hour ride and visit both Castello Verrazzano and Vignamaggio. One is north of town and the other south. Be sure to make reservations an check the return times for the bus.
We took the WalkAboutFlorance Chianti Wine & Food tour a couple years ago and absolutely loved it. It was a "small group" tour which left from and returned to Santa Maria Novella train station. The tour guide was excellent, the group dynamic was great, the three wineries were all top-notch and the lunch (at one of the wineries) was out of this world. The tour was the highlight of our 2 week trip to Italy.
We took a private tour with Anna from Cool Tours: http://www.cooltours.it/full-day-tuscany-tours for 2 days. The Chianti tour and Valdorcia tour are wonderful!
