Day Trips from Florence

This will be our first trip to Italy and we'll be staying in Florence in the month of November for 7 nights. While we're there we'll be seeing the sites in Florence. Do any of you have suggestions for a few Day trips during our stay? We've been studying this site for months and months and there is incredible information from those of you that have traveled these areas.

The RS book will suggest some day trips. Obvious ones would be to go to hilltowns in Tuscany & Umbria, or to the wine region. To venture a little farther afield you could consider Bologna and the area around it, especially Parma. That region is the food capital of Italy, and the towns are worth visiting in their own right.

For hilltowns and wineries you could go on a planned tour, do it by train (not as easy, although I've done it), or by car. If you rent a car be SURE to look into the dreaded ZTLs in Florence so you don't get expensive tickets.

Ernest,
We did a one day trip on a bus to Siena, San Giminagno, Pisa and had lunch at an organic farm-it was a terrific tour- goggle the best tour of tuscany-walkabout pass. You can make reservations on line and you pay at the end of the tour.

Start Early.
You can take a bus from Florence to Siena(for lunch & walk)easily and cheaply. If you have more time you can take a local bus from Siena to Pienza & Montpulciano either stay on or just gaze out the window for the rd trip. All easily done w/ little effort.
