Can anyone recommend a company that has day trips to Chianti area (wine tour perhaps)?
Also would you recommend train or bus to Siena?
Have you bought the RS Florence/Tuscany book yet? It's really great for these "how do I get from Point X to Point Y" questions. Plus it's loaded with all sorts of more information that will be vital for you to have. Smartest money you'll spend on your vacation. As to your specific (second) question, a bus will plunk you right in the historic center of Siena. Details in the RS book. :-) Happy travels.
Siena is the bus - sempre. Todd is a friend, who will take you to interesting places - or you can hire him to go just about anywhere: http://tuscantrails.com/ Also there are many day trip ideas here: http://www.florence-journal.com/florence/day_trips/
My husband I just took a wine tour in Chianti and had a great time. It was with the Tuscan Wine Society www.tuscanwinesociety.com. It met in Florence and was about 8 hours, included 2 wineries and lunch. It was a nice, small group, too.
Hi Kathy, Try the Slow day in Tuscany http://www.slow-days.com
-but they may be booked up at this time of year as it is the grape harvest month and a popular time to visit the vineyards. If they don't have space give the ones above a try as they all seem to be offering the same sort of thing.
Thanks for the info. I have booked a tour with slow-days.
