We will be staying in Cinqueterre for about a week and would like to take a day trip or two into Lucca , Pisa or maybe Florence (although I think it is too far and big for a day trip). Any suggestions?

By train, Pisa is about 2 hrs, Lucca is ~2hr15min, Florence ~3hr15mins. Those are one-way times, station to station only. To get total travel time, double those times and add for the time to get to the train station, wait for the train, on both ends.
