We will be day tripping to Montepulciano and Pienza this week. Any suggestions for parking on both? Is there a place at the bottom of the hill in Montepulciano that you can park and take a bus to the top or a parking lot closer to the top with less of a climb? TY!

Last time we stayed in Montepulciano we discovered a smallish parking lot, metered, at the top. It is called Parcheggio S Donato, located at 21 Via S. Donato. Very close to the Piazza Grande and at the top. It IS tricky though because if you cannot find a space, the road leads you into the ZTL. But if I remember correctly, you can turn around and go back down.

Montepulciano: plenty of parking outside of the walls near the UPIM department store. Walk through the Porta al Prato city gate to get inside the walls. The tourist office (Pro loco) is also there.
In Pienza I always park near the COOP Supermarket. Lots of parking lots there, and I think it’s free. Short walk to the city gate (which I think is also called Porta al Prato) through which you enter the city walls.
