How feasible will it be to do day tripping from Lucca (as a base) to the Cinque Terre? Any other suggestions are very welcome. Not having any luck finding nice lodgings directly in the CT.
To me, Cinque Terre is not a "day-trip," it's an experience. And to enjoy it, you need to immerse yourself in the area. I'm surprised there are not lodgings available. We always had wonderful little apartments when we headed north. Keep looking - I just wouldn't do the day trip. Go to Pisa for a day-trip from Lucca!
So far the only nice(er) place we have found is a B&B named Albergo di Marina in deiva Marina. Anyone familiar with that area/place and is this a good spot from which to explore the CT?
My esteemed colleague, Ron formerly of Rome, who has lived in Italy, has got it right: the CT is not a "day-trip," it's an experience. To enjoy it, you will want to immerse yourself in the area, and not just day trip it. Instead, please do yourself a favor and sleep in one of the five CT villages - not somewhere else.
