I have a day in Rome prior to joining Rick Steves' 7 days in Rome and want to go out to Tivoli to visit the Villa d'Este and Hadrian's Villa - can anyone recommend a company doing a full day tour? So far all I have found are half-day trips. Thanks in advance.

You can easily do it on your own. Go to RomeinRome.com where you will find a detailed, and I mean DETAILED, step by step including pictures of how to get there and back by a couple different routes.

Thanks Frank and Michael. Lesley, these two links might also help as you're headed to Villa Adriana: How do I get to Villa Adriana and How to Read a COTRAL Bus Schedule . The COTRAL bus schedules can be a little hard to understand. Just ask someone and they'll direct you. As long as you're headed to Tivoli or back to Rome on one of these buses, you'll be fine! We often walk from the COTRAL bus stop down the hill to Villa Adriana. We then try and catch the local bus back up the hill. Somehow it doesn't seem so far when traveling downhill?? For me, it's a gelato AND/OR a caffe' stop when heading uphill! Ask the folks at the Villa Adriana ticket office and they can give you approximate times and where the local bus stops near the Villa Adriana site.
