We are spending three nights on the Lake. Has anyone done a day trip to St. Moritz to check out the town?
For info only, St. Mortiz is a 4.0hr-5.0hr train journey from Varenna. Some runs involve a bus for part of the run. Then, there are the runs that go from Varenna to Tirano where you transfer to the Bernina Express to St. Moritz. No buses on this run.
In 2005 I went the reverse but stayed in St Mortiz-Pontresina for 2 nights. It is a scenic slow train ride (Bernina Express) on the Swiss side with a train transfer. It is too long for a day trip in my opinion. Leave it for another time and savor Lake Como area. If you really want to do a day trip look into Lugano easily reached by bus from Menaggio.
Thank you both for the input. For this leg of our trip we have a rental car which is why I was considering the side trip.
