It seems like bus is the way to go to Siena from Florence. Is it worth it, and fairly easy? I was considering going on Monday.
We spent a day in Siena while based in Castellina in Chianti. I can't speak to the bus transportation from Florence - but visiting Siena is more than worth it. Their Duomo is just spectacular - and lunch in the Piazza del Campo is wonderful. I don't see how a trip to Siena could be a disappointment. Go and enjoy!
Yes, worth it. You can take the train as well
Before anyone tells you the best option is the bus, the train from Florence is a great option if it fits your schedule better. Seems to be more frequent. Across from the train station in Siena in a shopping mall is an escalator that takes you just outside the walled city. The guide books or the advice is a bit dated since we used this way back in 2011.
The cathedral is magnificent. The rest of Siena old town is over rated.
HaHa Jazz+Travels. I'm no fan of Florence or the Cinque Terra. Love Siena. Glad I've visited them all to get it figured out just like I wish everyone gets the chance to.
Florence is over rated as well.
Jazz's opinion is not widely shared. We all have opinions, it is helpful to state them as such.
I live Siena and Firenze, seeing both is a good way to begin to understand the rivalry between them, and the transition from Medieval to Renaissance.
My opinion is widely shared but not on this monolith where you maybe limited
I only spent a day in Siena, but I also loved visiting the city! The one thing that did frustrate me were my photography skills. Now I was just using my phone, but I could NEVER once seem to capture the magnificent colors there - the buildings, the contrast with the trees, etc.
I would definitely make time for a visit.
