Day trip to Siena?

we're staying 4 nights in Florence. Should we spend one of those 4 days to take a day trip to Siena, or should we solely concentrate on Florence for those 4 days?

cheri, I agree, a daytrip to Siena would be worthwhile. Travel by Bus is the easiest method, as passengers are dropped in Piazza Gramsci, in the main part of town. Happy travels!

Abolutely go to Siena...you will love it and for entirely different reasons than you love Florence. Kaye

Siena is great and with 4 nights in Florence you can probably swing it. You can play it by ear and decide while you are there and as other poster stated taking the bus is the way to go

Siena is so dreamy! Don't miss it! Just be sure to wear your comfy-est shoes that day...it's very hilly. I think it would add a lot to your trip. The candy-striped Siena duomo alone is worth the trip. The Sienese are lovely people and the town is a bit quieter than Florence. Slightly more relaxed vibe than Florence (my favorite city in the world). Do it!

YES! See Siena. We actually stayed in Siena & day tripped to Florence. Siena is small but it has a lot of history. It's just too bad that it's time was cut short due to the plague & Florence prospered instead. The Duomo (especially the ceiling in the Piccolini library) is very beautiful. B/c it's on a hill, it didn't have flooding or other issues that sometimes damaged buildings/paintings. You can go up to the panorama at the Duomo (RS' book will tell you where to go once you get inside to get in line). It's a little hike up a small, sometimes slippery, stairwell, but the view is amazing. When you think medieval - this town nails it. Just be warned - the lanes are STEEP. Figure out the shortest distance to get where you need to go. Sometimes that means walking up & along a ridge in order to go back down. (We learned the hard way).
