I will be in the CT in early June. I am flying out of Milan and had hoped to see the Last Supper before leaving. However, the tickets are sold out for the days I will be in Milan. There are tickets available for a few days while I am in CT. Would it be worth a day trip to Milan to see the Last Supper, then return to CT, then back to Milan on the day before I fly out? I will not have a car and cannot change the date of my flight home. Thanks for your thoughts.
In a word, Sharon, no, think I. Or in two words, no way.
One of the reasons that the tickets often sell out is that they are bought in quantity by tour companies. You might check out Milan city tours on the day you will be there, the day before your flight, I assume. I did the Dark Rome Tours tour (I understand they are in the process of changing their name, but www.darkrome.com should get you there). It was quite good, including the interior and exterior of the Duomo, but not the roof, and a walking tour by or through other major sites, then ended up at the church where The Last Supper is on display. I understand there are various companies that do similar tours, maybe on different days or schedules. Of course these guided tours include more, take more time, and cost considerably more than just the tickets to see the painting, but probably much less than would be involved in a separate trip back from CT just for that, and you wouldn't need to miss a day enjoying the wonderful CT.
Sharon you do know that the amount of time that you actually get to see the Last Supper is limited to 15 minutes.
Stan - I know. I just hate the idea of being in Milan and missing this piece of art! Maybe I'll take Larry's advice and book a city tour that includes The Last Supper. Thanks for your thoughts.
