Hi, my wife and I are planning to be in Italy this fall. One of our stops, we're planning to spend four nights in Florence. We would like to take a day trip to Pisa and visit the town around. Suggestions, please. (Travel, places to see, etc) Thank you!
Are you asking for additional places for day trips in addition to Pisa? Pisa is definitely a day trip, and could be combined with Lucca. Going by train is easy. But with only 4 nights, taking an additional day trip day (Siena?) would mean shortchanging Florence. Siena's old town is easier by bus from Florence.
And if you needed to choose just one day trip, I'd choose CJean's suggestion of Siena over Pisa.
Thank you for your suggestions.
If you just want to see the Leaning Tower, it is quite a way out of the centre of town.
Get a train that stops at Pisa S Rossore - about a ten minute walk.
There is not much else except the tower complex, and limited lunch options.
There's more than enough in Pisa for a day trip - this was our day trip in the winter, fall should be nicer still. But there is such a lot to see in Florence you may not need to day trip anywhere: https://slowtravelitalyspain.blogspot.com/2020/02/pisa-in-january.html
Hi, Tinac
Thank you for your information. We're looking forward to seeing more than just the Tower of Pisa. Our plan (for now) is to spend four nights in Florence. Then take the bus to Siena and spend three nights there. Thinking of renting a car and visiting some small towns around Siena. Do you guys think it will be better to take a day trip from Florence to visit Pisa or take the day trip from Siena?

go to pisa and see more of that side of italy. friends went for a day trip for tower and the town itself. they loved it and away from the hustle and bustle. get your tickets to tower (opapisa,it) since you are spending in siena go see this area

well known pasta factory family (3 generations). one of my favorites things to do is roam around small shops and buy dry pasta, sauces, spices to bring back to states with me.

search walking tour of pisa. older article with instructions of walking/roaming around with places to see & things to do and eat
if you are renting a car, make sure to get an IDP (aaa.com/IDP, international drivers permit) for all drivers before leaving the states, it's good for a year. it is mandatory in italy. enjoy your holiday and have fun

Thank you for the information. Looking forward to exploring and create some memories...

I would definitely day trip to Pisa from Florence, not from Siena. It's an easy train ride from Florence centre to Pisa centre.
Apart from the leaning tower, there is not much to see in Pisa. Take an hour + a visit to the McDonalds. I would hire a car in Florence to explore the surrounding area. The area around San Gimignano, or Bolgheri, for example. In Siena, I imagine that would be difficult with a car. You have to park outside the city and then walk.
Thank you everyone for your advice. Be_Rome, the McDonalds?
Not trying to be snarky, but Pisa is a place I will avoid in the future. I was just there a couple weeks ago (mid april) and the place was overrun with tourists. It feels like a tourist trap to me.. I had been there a couple of times, once in the 1970s as a kid and again in the 1980s. But now it feels like a carnival. The restaurants were expensive and crowded and the town was full of sleezy people hounding you to buy junk. Lots of pickpockets... You have to park a long way out of town and walk a ways so it is just a hassle.
I would avoid...
