Day trip to Modena - driving - to see car museums

While in Venice next month, my husband and son will rent a car for a day to drive to Modena. Trying to do this by train just wasn't working well with the times, and it was not expensive to rent a car for a day. The postings on this forum warning about ZTLs have been helpful as we are otherwise traveling by train and would not have been aware of them. Unfortunately the museum web site doesn't make it clear if the museum is inside the ZTL in Modena. Has anyone done this type of trip and have tips and/or recommendations for how to plan? Ideally they will pickup the car on Friday morning (Piazzale Roma), drive to Modena and see the Enzo Ferrari museum in Modena, the one in Maranello, and then drive back to Venice, drop off the car at Piazzale Roma. I think I understand there's no problem with that (just watch out for the speed cameras on the causeway).
Thanks in advance for your help!

And while there, take in the Lamborghini factory, and it's out in the country.

How so? There is a regional connection through Bologna at 42 past the hour every hour that will get you there in 2 hours and 41 minutes, costing 30 EUR for 2 each way. The Enzo Ferrari Musem is walking distance of Modena station (500 meters). If you are not seeing these connections now, it is because they will not show up on the schedule until very close to the December 8 schedule update. Just look at the current schedule, it usually does not change (much).

Viamichelin says it is a 2 3/4 hour drive from Piazzale Roma and estimates costs in gas and tolls of 30 EUR each way. Pretty much a horse a piece except for the cost of the rental.

I did it a few years ago taking the Frecca train out of Venice and renting a car. You should be able to schedule all three museums (Enzo, Ferrari and Lamborghini) and get back not too late.

Enjoy!
