For those that have visited Milan, how would you plan a one day visit? What were your favorite thungs to see or do? We’d arrive by train at 10:30 am at Milan Central. Return train options at either 5:30, 6:30 or 7:30. This time of year would a weekday or weekend be better. It’s dark before 7 pm this time of year.
Planning visit for one day next week, depending on weather. Thanks in advance!
Get tickets to da Vinci’s “The Last Supper”ASAP if you can. If they are all booked, then take a city tour that includes it. One of our all time favorite travel highlights.
Also visit Duomo, Galleria Emmanuel, La Scala. You do not have enough time for much more.
If you have to book a tour, that will cover the Last Supper, Duomo, Galleria, Castello Sforza in 3 hours starting at 1 pm. Tours usually start in the Piazza Duomo and finish at the Last Supper. Afterward, go down to the Navigli neighborhood to experience some of the "Happy Hour" bars with snacks included when you buy a drink. Then take the Metro back to Milano Centrale for the 7:30 pm train back to Verbania (my assumption).
Go to the Fondazione Prada, a really interesting museum space. The bar, called Bar Luce, was designed by the American director Wes Anderson. There's a lot of other stuff going on there, and the complex in an old industrial space was designed by the Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas. Walk around, window shop, checking out the chic designer displays on Via Montenapoleone and Via della Spiga. I agree re aperitivo time in the Navigli district--lots of good drinks and food to go with it, plus, people watching. Another interesting diversion within walking distance of Milano Centrale is the Porta Nuova development. In addition to the Torre Unicredit, there's the Bosco Verticale, a couple of apartments buildings designed, literally, as green structures, with trees and other plants growing out of the sides. Look, you can see olde Italy everywhere else. Milano is all about fashion, design, architecture, and good living. It's modern Italy, polished and enjoyable.
