Rick Steves' Italy Guidebook does a great job on all details of Capri. That is the source we used for a day trip.
If you aren't sure what to do there, what made you pick those two islands for day trips?
Ischia is a large island. It would be very hard to see it in a day. Here are some things to do and see, but you’ll have to be selective. If there’s any way you could spend at least one night, then head to Capri the next day, I’d recommend that approach.
Loved the hike from Capri up and over the mountain and down to Anacapri. Total quiet and solitude on the plateau up top. We were the only ones on the trail when we did it in 2003. Not sure how popular it is now.
Hi - we went to Ischia for one day in August. Our goal was a hot spring spa (Poseidon) and it did not disappoint. We took the public buses to get around and it was challenging and confusing; we took one taxi, and it was expensive for a short distance. I left wanting more, so we are going back this year to stay two nights and three days. It is a hard place to find information about if you don't speak Italian but we are looking forward to learning more about it. The DK Eyewitness guide (published in 2022) had more information that Lonely Planet (which had some).
I have not been there since the most recent slides. Hopefully they are well along the way to restoration. Ischia is a place where you should consider spending an overnight. It's a bit much to take on in a single day.
