I will be traveling to Italy in May, staying 5 nights in Florence, then Cinque Terre and then on to Rome. I want to take a day trip from Florence and am thinking about Greve and Montefioralle. Has anyone done this and are the buses easy to figure out ? (will not be renting a car) Do I need a whole day for this or just a half a day? Please, any suggestions will be appreciated.
We did this in the reverse a few years ago. We stayed in Greve and took the bus in to Florence. There were plenty of buses that ran between the cities. It's easy to figure out too. Greve itself is a cute little town (not a hill town) with great restaurants and wine shops. Haven't been to Montedfioralle.
Lonnie, here is the bus schedule for service between Florence and Greve. Frequent daily buses. Just watch out for the reduced service on Sundays. http://www.acvbus.it/orari/365.pdf I have no info on Montefiorelle.
You can walk from Greve to Montefioralle, if you don't mind a 30 min walk uphill.
There is also a bus from Greve, not too frequent, though:
