Day Trip to Florence from Rome

We are going to be in Rome the third week in Feburary. Has anybody taken one of the bus tours to Florence? Atre they worth the money?

I agree that Florence deserves more than a day trip but if that is all the time you have it can certainly be done. I would suggest you do it on your own instead of with a tour group. You can take the train directly to Florence and start sight seeing on your own. There are a few sites I would make reservations for before you go but if you plan on just getting a taste of the city you don't need to go into the museums.

Would you recommend hiring a tour guide once we got to Florence?

If you have the time spend 1 night and no tour guide. If you can't spend the night, then consider a tour guide.

It really depends on what you are looking to get out of it. Florence is certainly doable as a day trip. One day is not enough for most people to see everything in Florence they want to see.

We organized our own day trip to Florence via the Eurostar Italia. Saw Santa Maria Novella, Duomo, Ponte Vecchio, stopped for lunch, toured the Uffizi with a private guide which was a brilliant idea. I would recommend a guide for Uffizi at the very least. Then ran up to the Accademia to see David, had dinner, and hopped back on the train to Rome.

It was a very busy, full day, and we didn't even come close to scratching the surface, but it was still worth every minute.
