Does anyone have any thoughts/suggestions about the feasibility/wisdom of doing Cinque Terra in a day trip from Milan via train? This would be in the first week of April. Thanks!!
Kent is right. Plus factor in the possibility of bad weather, still relatively short daylight hours, and there is no way you would enjoy the visit.
If you're looking for a quick Milano day trip, consider the 30 minute (each way) train ride from Milano to Varenna - a quaint town on Lake Como, pretty views and fun to walk around.
Thank you both for your replies...I am exhausted just reading about the travel time that would be necessary...definitely won't work on this trip!! We are going to Lake Como one day, but we have one other day for a "side trip"...any other suggestions??
Thanks Kent...yes, I know that Milan is usally just a city one "passes through", however, we have a daughter in school there so we will be staying in Milan a few days so that we have some time with her. I guess we will just enjoy the lakes..thanks again for your input.
Venice is within range for a day-trip. Take an early train, arrive at 10 or 11, then return in the evening. Be sure to secure reservations a day or two in advance so you can be guaranteed a seat. I consider 3 hours or less each way to be ok for a daytrip anywhere. Another possiblitiy is Bologna. I think it is a fairly short ride from Milan. Verona and Turin are also within range.
I think Verona is the best little city in Italy. It would make a nice busy day trip. Josh.
