Is Bergamo worth a day trip from Milan?
I haven't been but hoping that my autumn Italy trip will be a go- hoping that world events will be resolved and that there will be jet fuel- and that my day trip to Bergamo will happen. I don't have the link in my notes to paste here. Go to the official Visit Bergamo website and see if the town interests you- there is the upper town and the lower town. It's about 1 hour from Milan.
Definitely!
Historic Città Alta (Upper Town) can be explored in 1 full day and is well worth it!
And the train ride from Milan to Bergamo is quick (< 1h), direct and inexpensive.
I suggest using these travel resources to research and plan an itinerary:
- Rough Guide Italy guide, Bergamo section
- Barnyz YouTube channel, Bergamo episode
Definitely worth it! I stayed there last year for 4 days, with a day trip to Brescia.
Hi Joyce, I enjoyed staying in the Citta Alta portion of Bergamo for two nights in 2022, and I brought my adult daughter for one night last year. Another option from Milan is Cremona, also.
If you like art and haven't seen enough in Milan, then Accademia Carrara is excellent. Otherwise the historical centre (Città alta) of Bergamo is definitely worth a day trip. But maybe not at the weekend in spring or summer because it's quite small and attracts a lot of people
