We will be in the Veneto in late Sept and are looking for ideas for day trips. Is it worth it to take a day trip to Balzano. We don't want to have to go to the hassle of renting a car for one day and know that trains run to Balzano, but can you experience very much of the Dolomites in Balzano or do you need to take many buses from there? Also, at that time of the year, are the lifts or much of the city still open for the season? Any suggestions of what to see or do if we go there? Thanks for your help!
Skip Bolzano altogether. The only attraction is its museum and less expensive lodging than in the Dolomites. In order to enjoy the dolomites you need a car or must take a tour. No ques it is fantastic scenery but not a day trip. Allow 2-3 days or on your way south from Germany to Veneto as we did.
Have you considered Padua as a day trip? Me, I would stay an extra day in Venice than day trip out.
I have been to Venice 3X.hope this helps.
