Day trip to Assisi

We are staying one week in a villa near San Gimignano. Is a day trip by car to Assisi feasible? We know it is a long distance but we would love going to Assisi if it makes sense.. Any recommendation from anyone?

It would take roughly 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 hours each way to drive. Only you can decide if you want to do a 5 hour round trip to visit.
