Day trip to amalfii

Hi, my family of 4 which has 2 teenagers have booked a day tour to amalfii from sorrento with travel etc.
They will be taking us in a 16 seater van. But both my children suffer from travel sickness, so wanted to know if the travel will be too difficult for them. We are travelling on 20th of may, so would it make sense to cancel the trip and visit amalfii by ferry?

The road from Sorrento to Amalfi Coast is noted for being full of curves, riding right along the edge of the cliff, and idiot drivers coming at you, in front of you, behind you and trying (usually failing) to pass you. The teenagers may find this difficult. Personally, I prefer taking the ferry from Sorrento with stops in Positano and Amalfi - but that might be difficult for the kids too. After all that bad news: can you ask your doctor for motion sickness pills?

Take the ferry, the road from Sorrento to Amalfi is a lot of turn left turn right winding roads cliff side all the way there.

It depends on how susceptive to what you call "travel sickness" they are.

(I assume what you mean is actually motion sickness - nausea caused by being in moving vehicles, among other things -- not the "travel affliction" that many folks here suffer and embrace.)

My spouse is extremely prone to motion sickness -- she has gotten carsick when I drove her a few blocks to the nearby grocery store (I took a few corners too fast/tightly); I've never met anyone so easily inclined to getting sick from motion - cars, boats, airplanes, roller coasters, even just from watching some movies (I'm the opposite). She was challenged on the road from Sorrento to Amalfi (we were in a bus) but she was pre-medicated and she made it without "losing it". Had she not been "patched" for the ride, I'm sure things would not have gone well. The road is extremely twisty, with constant, endless, sharp curves that swing left then immediately right. Your vehicle will not be traveling very fast (helpful) due to traffic but the scenery is so dramatic (and you're right on the edge of spectacular cliffs the whole way) so everyone is going to have their eyes glued to the scenic vistas. For those highly prone to car-sickness, it's a recipe for losing your last meal.

Don't know if you/they have ever explored over-the-counter or prescription remedies. My wife has tried everything under the sun. The only thing that works for her is Scopolamine (administered by a skin-patch), which must be prescribed by a doctor and has some (relatively mild) side effects. It is highly effective for her and she swears by it.

If your kids are really quick to do the technicolor yawn anytime they're in something that moves, I think you might be somewhat better off on the ferry. But of course, plenty of people get sick on boats, too. No easy/perfect fix. My wife says "Get the patch!!! (if they're old enough - check with your doctor).

So how are you traveling on the rest of your trip, that this one day trip seems to pose a special problem?

yes they suffer from motion sickness, (travel sickness was written by mistake). Will take prescriptions for them and not travel on a full stomach .
