Day Trip Sorrento to Naples

I want to do a day trip to naples. I want to see the Archaeological Museum and a tour of the streets of Naples. How much time should I allot to see the museum?

Has anyone done the Rick Steves Naples Walk? Did you feel safe? Alternatively, I was thinking of taking a Viator Walking Tour.

Thanks
Craig

Minimum 2 hrs at arch. Museum, it is wonderful. I have not taken the complete RS walk, but naples is mostly gritty and uncomfortable.
U would enjoy Naples much better for sure if u took a tour with a guide, it would be well worth the money. It is easy to get lost inthe streets. Be Aware of pickpockets at all imes. For sure do not miss sovergni chapel, with or without guide. It is the most beautiful sculpture ever made imo.
I hope this helps.

Easy Naples Walking Tour

Start at Duomo (Naples Cathedral)
Left out of the cathedral on to Via Duomo, then right into Via dei Tribunali for San Lorenzo Maggiore Church
Turn left into Via San Gregorio Armeno – Naples Street of Nativity Workshops
From Via San Gregorio Armeno turn right into Via San Biago dei Librai – Spaccanaploi – The Centre of Naples
On to San Domenico Maggiore and San Severo Chapel (coffee and pastry from Scaturchio)
From Piazza San Domenico Maggiore take Via Benedetto Croce to Santa Chiara Monastery

We did the R.S. Naples Walk in December one year. It was a very full day, starting at the Archeological Museum at opening, 10:00. I think we were there for almost 2 hours. We finished up about 18:00 and headed back to Sorrento, and saw a lot, but really did not have time to see everything on Rick's tour.

Visited Naples enroute to Sorrento in July of 2013 on a girl's trip with my niece & 2 sisters. We cked our bags at the train station and took the metro to the Arch. Museum. After the museum we did the walking tour in Rick's bk and we never felt unsafe. After stopping for pizza, we made our way back to the train station. We were hesitant about spending any time here but glad we did.

I spent 6.5 hours in the museum (deduct an hour for taking photos), but I looked at most of the exhibits, not just glances as I passed. And I looked at all the collections, like the busts of the gallery of imperial Roman emperors. I think 2 hours would be the absolute minimum.

Thanks fro your suggestions. We will get to the museum when they open. I've booked a walking tour of Naples through he Rick Steves Shared Tour on Mondo Guide. It doesn't look like we will get the minimum number of sign-up's, but Mondo Guide has offered a private tour for my wife and me for 100 euros, so that sounds like our plan.

Thanks again,
Craig
