I was looking for a great, not to be missed spot to visit within a few hours by train for a day trip either big city or quaint. We just want to be sure we make the best of the day.
haven't done it yet, but will soon. Lucca is a little medieval town that still has it's rampart walls around the city, you can rent a bike and ride the walls. I hear it is lovely, Rick talks about it in the Italy book and it is only an hour or so by train from the CT
I second Chere's suggestion of Lucca. I've been there twice and really like it. You could also combine Lucca with Pisa. There are several trains each day between Cinque Terre and Lucca or Pisa. Trip takes about 2 hours to either, and you can take the 20 minute train ride between the 2 cities to make it a loop.
Thank you for the suggestion about Lucca, that will probably be the best bet. Any eating spots we should be aware of?
