Day Trip on Ischia- Which Beach? Any tips?

Wife and I plan on spending a day trip on the island of Ischia during our stay in Sorrento. Probably gonna take a hydrofoil to and from but cant decide which beach to visit since there are so many! We're looking for a beach with soft sand (not pebbles), fun beach bars, tasty/inexpensive beach restaurants, some shopping and of course a nice view!! Anyone have any recommendations? Recommendations for travel to and from the Island are welcomed also, along with any tips whatsoever!! Thanks in advance!

All beaches on my beautiful Isola Verde are sandy....no pebbles...it is an amazing island...I go every year...consider staying there for 2-3 nights..there is a boat ride that goes around the island and gives you a taste of each of the 4 major towns. Ischia has nothing to offer in the way of shopping...trust me...there will be a few Lemoncello shops and pottery nick nack shops in each town..that's about it. If you like root beer sort of....hard to describe...they make a great apperitivo called Ruccolino from arugula....you can only buy it there or in the Naples duty free..usually hidden on a bottom shelf...any restaurant will have it so try it after a meal and if you like it buy some to take home.

There is only one way to get there, ferry...not sure if the one from Sorrento goes to Forio, probably not...they most likely go to the main one called Ischia Porto

If you only have one day and want to experience Ischia.a hot springs volcanic island.....try this for a day trip: From Ischia Porto..take taxi to Negumbo Spa..http://www.negombo.it/ Negumbo has dozens of spa pools and a great beach with snack bar...

don't fool with buses on a day trip...they never come and are packed when they do. Forio is the largest town with lot's of shops, a beautiful Fisherman's Church and a good long sandy beach, lot's of restaurants..

Not into the spa pools...go to Fisherman's beach which is in Ischia Ponte...take a 15 minute taxi ride from the main port..ask for the Communal rate...probably 10-12 Euro from Porto to Ponte....don't try to walk it will take 45min to 1 hour without stopping...

Fisherman's beach is the best one on this side of the island..it is a cute town and views of the Castle Aragonese..which you should at least walk over to...you can see quite a bit before you reach the ticketed area...there is a nice shaded cafe too..there are good restaurants as well...I like Il Pontile...on the way to the Castle Aragonese...

Wow. Super awesome tips...great to pick someone's mind who has actually been there. Thank you very much! I said pebbles because I originally planned to visit Maronti beach but a tripadvisor post said the sand isn't really sand but rather small pebbles and tiny rocks. Judging from what I read online it looks like the hydrofoil from Sorrento leaves around 0930 and returns around 1700. So it doesn't look like I'll have much time to explore the whole island but I'm definitely going to look into fisherman's beach. Sounds like a gorgeous view. By the way, do they allow fishing there? I'm an avid fisherman and would love to rent a pole and hook up a few catch & release!! Thanks again!

Yes, it is a special place, stay if you can...even 1 night would be magical.

None of those beaches are like on the coast...and getting into and out of the sea is easy...no big stones like Sorrento, Capri or Positano..you need water shoes there for sure...bring them to Ischia anyway...

Not sure about actually fishing...but Castle Aragonese and the beach scene, lunch should fill the day...plan to be back at the main port. at least a half hour before your ferry departs....you can have a drink or dessert while you wait for the ferry...

Touring the Castle Aragonese is highly recommended. 1.5 hours or so at a leisurely pace...sweeping views and some shaded paths..

Bar Calise in the main port, called "Porto" where you exit the ferry go up to the first intersection it is right there ....is very good, and has a bathroom downstairs..just say'n :) There is also a little deli up the steps behind the bus stop across from Bar Calise..ask anyone...stock up on snacks, sandwiches and WATER for the beach...
