My husband and I will be spending three nights in Lucca in Tuscany in May. We would like to take a day trip to Florence and one day trip to another town in Tuscany. We would love any suggestions for another day trip that would be doable by train or bus from Lucca... It seems like we have to back track and take the train Florence to get to many of the areas in Tuscany.. is that correct, or will we have some options from Lucca? Thanks for any advice!
You can go to Pisa, easily, from Lucca. Siena is another option, if you go through Empoli.
Stephie: See my answer to your other post with the same question.
We spent 2 weeks in Italy last September and, other than the wedding we attended, our most memorable and FABULOUS day was spent in Tuscany. We took a 1/2 day "cooking" class through a company www.accidentaltourist.com
It is not an intensive class at all...in fact it was more just a wonderful lunch at a private home in a 100 year old farmhouse in one of the little Tuscan towns. We actually had lunch in someone's home and we helped make the pasta. It was also one of our top 3 meals in all of Italy. And, it was cheap.
I recommend that everyone do this! I will do it everytime I am in Italy...which will hopefully be many more times!
