We've been here 5 days and are hoping to do a couple of day trips before we leave.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Have you been to the islands of the Lagoon?
Hope you're having a wonderful visit Theresa, how is the weather in Venice this week?
Day trip ideas:
(1) have you already been to Murano, Burano, Torcello, etc. in the lagoon? Everyone has their favorite.
(2) Padua, Vicenza or Verona, each is different, all are excellent. Padua is closest, about 30 minutes from Venice, with a wonderful market almost every day, and the beautiful Scrovegni Chapel full of Giotto frescoes, but that does require advance reservations. Don't know if there would be openings on short notice, maybe if you are flexible with your time slot.
I totally agree with the islands of Burano and Torcello - and Verona. I also enjoyed a trip out to San Giorgio Maggiore - right across from Piazza San Marco across the Guidecca canal. You can take the elevator up the bell tower and get a great view of Venice from a different perspective.
If you have not done so already, I highly recommend venturing into Cannaregio and Dorsoduro. If you walk back toward the lagoon in Cannaregio, there are areas where you might be the only tourists you see - especially at night. It is so quiet compared to the bustle of the San Marco and Rialto areas.
Now that the Giro d'Italia has passed thru I would suggest Vicenza, and also Padua.
Vicenza. If you enjoy architecture.
I agree with Larry, Padua ( Padova) is a nice place to visit from Venice as it's an easy 30 minute train ride.
You may be able to get into the Scrovegni Chapel without prior reservations as I don't think there are large crowds there now.
My mom & I stayed in Padua last October & we didn't have advance reservations. We purchased our tickets & only had to wait 15 minutes.
If you go to Padova, you can also visit St. Anthony's basilica & enjoy the best gelato at Pretto (gelateria): http://tinyurl.com/Pretto-Gelateria-Map
Happy Trails!
Edit: Here is the website for the Scrovegni Chapel reservations: http://www.cappelladegliscrovegni.it/index.php/en/
You might want to try a canal tour (battellidelbrenta.it).
(Whoops, just corrected the spelling.)
If you decided to spend the night in Padova, it would be a very romantic way to get there; if not, you could take the train back to Venice.
