Hi, What other day trips can one do from Siena besides Florence since we will be spending 3 nights in Florence and 3 nights in Siena. Is Cortona too far?
Thanks.
We did an easy day trip to San Gimignano by bus from Siena Piazza Gramsci.
if you have a car you can easly visit several hill towns. good luck :):)
Without a car Pienza, San Gimignano, Montepulciano are easy all by bus from Siena bus station. Skip Cortona as it is further away. And frankly it is not as nice as what's around Siena. There is so much just around Siena that is wonderful and can fill your time better if you are based in Siena.
I agree with the above post. We really loved montepulciano and Pienza. Also loved Lucca. We had a car so had more flexability. You park outside of the hill towns and hike in. What an experience.
The towns already mentioned are well worth seeing, but don't forget Volterra. We did a day trip by car from Orvieto and drove past Siena to get there so I'm sure it would be doable. I would imagine there is a bus or train between Siena and Volterra. Volterra has a marvelous Etruscan museum and wonderful Roman ruins.
Thanks so much.
We have 2/12 days there. So, 1 to 1 1/2 for Siena and was hoping to catch a bus for the other full day. Sounds perfect.
