Day trip from San Vito lo Capo to Palermo?

I'm planning to spend about a week in San Vito lo Capo, in Sicily but would like to visit Palermo a bit. Is it close enough to day trip via rental car? Or should we stay in Palermo overnight?

It's roughly about an hour, hour and a half away depending on traffic etc. San Vito is nice but small. Palermo could easily keep you busy for that time period. I'd say do an overnight. Warning: Traffic is crazy in Palermo and parking can be a hassle.
