Day Trip from Rome - Naples + ??

Im planning our itinerary for Italy in July - spending 5 nights in Rome before heading up to Florence & Venice. Wanted to do a day trip down to Naples & I wanted to try and do Naples & Pompeii in one day. My wife keeps mentioning Capri. If we were to do a one day trip from Rome to Naples, would Pompeii, Capri, or Sorrento be a better combination for that day?

Most people go to Naples to see Pompeii. Capri is too far to do as a day trip as is Sorrento. If you wish to see those cities you should plan them as an overnight. Donna
