Tomorrow is my last full day in Rome! I’m thinking I’d like to see the coast. Any recommendations on where to go and how to get there?!
Anzio
We went last week when we were in Rome. Takes about an hour from Rome Termini on Trenitalia. It’s the line that goes to Nettuno - 1 per hour. Anzio is the 2nd to last stop. It’s 3.60 per person each way. When you get to Anzio, walk down the hill from the station through the little piazza to the coast. I recommend the beach by Nero’s grotto. We had a lovely day there. We rented sun beds for a nominal amount for the day. We went on a Monday. I was told it gets very crowded on the weekend, especially Sundays. It was a very easy and nice day trip.
Edited to add...if you do go on Sunday, I was advised to plan to go early.
The beach at Ostia, just past Ostia Antica. Easy train ride.
Have you gone to Ostia Antica? It’s well worth seeing if you do choose to go to the beach at Ostia.
I took the train to Tarquinia and had a wonderful day exploring the Etruscan archaeological sites as well as relaxing for a few hours on the beach. Much less crowded than Ostia, and cleaner water to swim in. There are lockers and changing rooms, and you can rent an umbrella if you want.
