Don't know what you mean by day trip by bus from Rome? Are you looking for an organized bus trips to those locations? It is easy to get to and from Naples via train. If you hit the TI in Naples, you will find a variety of tours available. I would also check with the TI in Rome for group tours to Naples.
mt,
The easiest and quickest way to get from Rome to Naples is to use the high speed train. There's no reason to travel by Bus on that route (unless of course you're interested in an organized, guided tour as Frank mentioned).
Orvieto is easily done as a day trip from Rome as it's only about 1-2 hours each way. Many of the trains are Regionale, so DON'T forget to validate your tickets prior to boarding the train on the day of travel, or you'll risk hefty fines (the same applies to Buses and Metro).
A day trip to Bologna will take about 2 hours each way via high speed train. It's possible as long as you don't mind the longer travel time.
The Rick Steves book on Rome contains lots of information on doing day trips from Rome, but not as part of an organized tour. I highly recommend picking up a copy of it.
Happy travels.
I think you mean Tivoli and the gardens are at Villa d'Este. They are fabulous, and if you are here in August, open late Fri and Sat nights with the fountains all lighted. Worth a one-night overnight.
Also: Castel Gandolfo and Albano Laziale, the latter is easily visited in the wonderful Vatican By Train tour.
Orvieto, of course. Personally Bologna is awfully far for a day trip.
Fraschetti & Viterbo are easy by train and quite historic. I would do Naples by train and follow the Rick Steves' self-guided day tour there.
