We will be staying in Tuscany area for one week then down to Rome for 3 days. We would like feedback on what others would suggest as the best daytrip from rome? Thank you

I agree with the previous post. Pompeii is a wonderful sight, I think, not to be missed.

"Best" depends on your interests, of course. Pompeii is a good option if you want to explore the ancient times. It's very do-able by train as a day trip from Rome.

I think you will need the 3 days to see Rome. If you do have time for daytrips visit Orvieto, Viterbo, Tivoli or Ostia Antica. Read about Ostia Antica is Rick's Rome Guide. It's a great alternative to the loooong trip down to Pompeii - only about 45 minutes from the center of Rome.
