Day trip from Reggio Emilia

I have a day free in Reggio Emilia and looking for suggestions for a small town easily reachable by train within an hour or so. I already have days planned in Parma and Cremona and have been to Bologna and Ravenna. I am considering Modena and Ferrara but thought it might nice to see a place off the tourist path. I love art, churches, museums, food, wine....just about everything. i would love to just step off the train in an amazing place, walk around, eat a fantastic lunch, shop and just have a no stress day. Any ideas?

Thank you in advance! Anne

A small town on the train line and the Via Francigena path is Fidenza. It is a cute small town to walk through and there are a few things to see. It is A LOT smaller than Piacenza. Piacenza is also on the pilgrimage route of the Via Francigena. Ferrara is also a great town to visit.

I just want to comment how helpful Miuccia and Linda are to this forum! I enjoy going to the less touristy small towns, and I am bookmarking this post because I’m hoping to return to this area within the next two years to see more of the smaller towns.

(I loved Cremona!). Parma has my favorite cathedral interior, and Ferrara is also worth seeing.
