Hello, we are finishing our trip in Milan and we have a spare day before we leave. was wondering if someone could recommend a day trip to Switzerland by train. We are really regretting not planning to see Switzerland while we where here. Thanks!!

Can't tell you the best way to get there but we took a day trip to Lugano and loved it. We drove so can't tell you how easy it is to get there by train.

Direct trains approximately every 2 hours from Milano Centrale to Lugano, 1 hour journey. More trains with change at Chiasso from Milano Porta Garibaldi 1h25m to 1h52m.

Please note that Switzerland's currency is francs, not euro, even though they are happy to accept euro you will probably get any change back in Swiss francs, which you may not need after your daytrip is over.

Would definitely go to Lugano, and hike the hills, walk along the lake and feel I had gotten a sense of Switzerland. Enjoy!
