Day trip from Milan

We will be in Milan mid-November and have an extra 6-8 hours to take a train to a local town. It will be on Monday, so I'd like to go to a town where the main sights would be open. I'm sure any local town would be great to walk around. Would any of them have a market on Mondays?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I don't know what they have going in November, but Varenna (on Lake Como) is only an hour from Milan. We loved it!

Gwen,

A time frame of 6-8 hours is not long, but another you could consider is Stresa on Lago Maggiore. In addition to having a look around the town, you could visit one or more of the Borromeo Islands (Isola Bella is gorgeous).
