Day trip from Genoa to Portafino

We will be stopping in Genoa on an MSC cruise ship May 20 and would like to visit Portafino for the day. What is the best way to get there? Train? I think a ferry takes about 2 hours which we probably won't have the time for.

Thanking you in advance.

Does MSC have a 'transportation only' excursion? Trenitalia has frequent trains that take 45-60 (ish) minutes each way. You could check the Ports of Call forum on Cruise Critic to see if there are drivers for hire.

If checking websites, the correct spelling is PORTOFINO

Did a day trip to Portofino last June while staying in Genoa. You can take a train from Genoa to Santa Margherita Ligure and walk down to the ferry dock about 10 minutes away. The ferry to Portofino takes about 15 minutes. You can see most of what Portofino has to offer in about 2-3 hours. For nice views and photos walk up to Castle Brown.

You both gave VERY helpful information and I thank you. This forum is really heat. We didn't see an MSC transportation only excursion to Portofino. We've also been to Cruise Critic lots of times and didn't know there was a port forum but will definitely look for it. Appreciate the tips on where to go in Portofino also.

Happy Travels,

Nope. Suggestions of what to see there? Which place would be more interesting...Genoa or Portofino?
