Day trip from Florence To Porto fino, Porto Venere, Genoa

Hello dear reader,

I am looking to do day trip from Florence to Italian Riveria ( Porto Fino, Porto Venere, Genoa, etc..) .
I greatly appreciate if you help and let me know the best cities to visit and best way to get from Florence for Day trip? I am traveling May 15- May 20.

Your feedback and help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Train or road is nearly three hours each way to Genoa, the nearest point. In my view, that is too much travelling for a day trip.
May I suggest Bologna or Pisa by train instead?

Most of these locations can be timed as getting from Florence to La Spezia and then the time from there onto to your destination, Unfortunately looking in May all the best train times seem to be 2-2:30 to La Spezia and any travel onward from there adds more time so you're committing to a long day of travel (4+ hours certainly) if you want to day trip.

The closest is Porto Venere which is a train to La Spezia and then some sort of transportation - bus, taxi, ferry - to PV proper. For this trouble I would actually suggest checking out the southern side of the day instead - San Terenzo, Lerici and maybe Tellaro.
For Porto Fino check the train schedule to Santa Margherita Ligure but this is another hour past La Spezia. All along that section of coast there are many towns to explore Rapallo, Chiavari, Sestri Levante and many more but I don't know how much time you'll have with the long travel time in the day already.

Hope that helps, have a great trip,

I would not visit any of those on a day trip from Florence.
If you want to get out of the city there are SO many other options.

Are you looking for a day at the beach?
Look at Versilia or Viareggio.
It will be too cold to swim in May, or at least it would be far too cold for me to swim.

Unless you’ve seen everything else in Tuscany, I wouldn’t visit Portofino or Genoa. They are too far for a day trip and Portofino is overrated. I like Porto Venere but that is also a trek to get there (almost 3 hours each way by train+bus or only slightly less by car).
